Maison2Langues is the idea of a young Anglo-Dutch couple who gave up their IT-consultancy jobs in the Netherlands in order to live permanently in the South-West of France where they have started their own software company.

We haven’t regretted our decision for a single moment.  The tranquility and relaxed pace of life is hard to beat – the soothing landscape of the Lot-et-Garonne département where traffic jams are a distant memory, good weather, fantastic food and wine...  But it might have been a different story if we didn’t speak the language or weren’t quite so persistent and determined.  Because even though we’d spent many hours researching and preparing our move to France we still encountered numerous obstacles - simply because the French way of doing things can be so different from the way things are done ‘back home’.  Visiting France as a holiday-maker is very different from taking the plunge and deciding to relocate here.  Information available in reference books and internet sites is a good starting point but sooner or later you’ll find that it doesn’t address your particular set of circumstances or that one ‘expert’ source contradicts another.  All too often you’ll feel French bureaucracy was invented simply to baffle non-French speakers.  And, while you may derive some consolation from the knowledge that the infamous red-tape even confuses the native French, your questions remain unanswered. 

What you want is some straightforward help and advice - preferably from people who have been in your situation, who understand the differences between how ‘the system’ works in France and the U.K. and who can help you navigate a path through the maze.
